Mission Statement & Values

Picture

WE ARE PASSIONATE ABOUT:

  • Worship - We value meeting as God’s family.
For the purpose of celebration, encouragement, and re-centering. We view worship as a part of all aspects of our time together. Worship music, art, bringing the word, prayer, communion, and serving our community are all examples of how we worship God.
  • Equipping - Developing and training leaders whom God has called to a deeper level of service to the body of Christ.
Raising up leaders, helping people find their calling, and supporting them to do it. We believe in training and empowering those who God has called in order to serve his body and the world.
  • Discipleship - Equipping all who follow Jesus to pursue a deeper relationship with Him.
Following Jesus is about more than simply getting to heaven. We encourage each other to make being like Jesus a lifestyle rather than a once a week pastime. One of the main purposes of the church is to duplicate Jesus over and over in our community of faith and our community at large.
  • Evangelism - Salvation, justice, God’s rule, reign, and kingdom come.
We believe the good news of Jesus is to be preached over all the earth. We support both missions and lifestyle evangelism as expressions of this. We believe Jesus came to redeem all things; from the population of earth to the the very environment around us. All things are to be redeemed! The brokenness of this world is crying out and needs to be addressed by God’s church. Our response to this is the outreach wing of our church known as Sunrise Outreach Center.
  • Inviting - We are called to welcome and embrace all people, especially the broken and hurting.
All are welcome at Yakima Vineyard. Our motto is “Come as you are!” Jesus says "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Matt 11:28
  • The Bible, God’s written word and story.
God calls on us to wrestle with His word and make it a part of our everyday lives. We do this through preaching, study, and regular reading of Scripture as well as through small groups and biblical education such as Vineyard Institute. “It is important to be biblically literate but it is also important to be biblically obedient.” -John Wimber, founder of the Vineyard Movement
  • Honoring each other.
Embracing our differences and the way we approach our faith while simultaneously holding fast to the core beliefs of our faith. Diversity is seen as a strength, not a point of division. We value honoring every person as fearfully and wonderfully made, an image of God that is deserving of respect and love.
  • Helping people to an understanding that God loves us unconditionally.
Accepting that our sins are forgiven through the sacrifice of Jesus and living with confidence that our God loves us unconditionally. Extending and receiving that same forgiveness to one another. Bearing one another’s burdens. We view ourselves more as a family than a religious organization.

  • Fostering a life of prayer
Relationship with God is essential to our lives. Without prayer it is impossible to properly discern the direction and will of God. Without that we are just building our houses (lives) on shifting sand.
  • The Presence of the Holy Spirit - Spiritual gifts, prophecy, engaging in what God is doing.
We believe that the Holy Spirit is very much active and moving today. We need to constantly be listening to the Holy Spirit as He directs us in our everyday lives, truly being a Kingdom of God people! The presence of the Spirit is not supposed to be the exception – it’s supposed to be the norm.
  • Everyone gets to play
Children, teens, middle-aged, seniors - all are an active and vibrant part of the body of Christ in equal measure. No matter if you are 7 or 70, Jesus moves through you to advance His kingdom here on earth. We are all called to listen to the direction of our God and advance His will on the earth.
“The test of spiritual maturity is not the ability to speak in tongues, prophesy, or memorize Scripture. It’s the ability to love God and others. Learning to serve others by loving the unlovely, the less fortunate, the lost, and the broken. This is the highest call, that we would fulfill our purpose on earth. The kingdom is about doing just as much as teaching. If you aren’t doing the works of the kingdom the message isn’t complete. I pray the Vineyard never stops taking the risks of the kingdom.”

-John Wimber, founder of the Vineyard Movement
